Trying to conceive through assisted means because you need a donor or are struggling with infertility can be overwhelming emotionally, financially, and logistically. There are many excellent specialists you might work with, each offering expertise in their own area. As a doula, I do not replace those specialists but am the one person who will look at the whole picture with you. I understand the medical, legal, and financial systems you need to navigate as well as the emotional ups and downs. Working together, you can feel more prepared, confident, and ready to advocate for yourself.

"Meghan helped us feel informed, empowered, and never alone.

My partner and I had so many questions around this overwhelming IUI and IVF journey. Meghan guided us and helped us understand the process in a way that felt less overwhelming. We are so grateful for her presence during such an emotional and uncertain time."

Planning Support

Planning for Kids When You Need a Donor

I offer a package for six months of continuous doula support for those with infertility or utilizing donors to conceive. The package is designed to support as you plan, pursue, and move through fertility treatment. Sustained care offers continuity during a journey that often feels fragmented.

You are not expected to know what you will need in advance — the structure flexes so you can focus on caring for yourself.

Someone to walk with you

If you know that building your family will require outside assistance—such as a donor or a surrogate—the hardest part is often figuring out where to begin. How, when, and where to conceive can be overwhelming, and the fertility ecosystem can feel fragmented, overwhelming, and difficult to navigate without support.

The Planning Support Package is a focused, time-bound offering designed to help you orient yourself and make informed decisions before, or alongside, medical care. Through an in-depth, two-hour private consultation, we’ll talk through your history, priorities, values, and goals. I’ll then translate that conversation into a personalized Next Steps Plan. Rather than spending hours researching, comparing options, or trying to determine what applies to your situation, you’ll receive thoughtful, relevant guidance tailored specifically to you, so you can focus on making decisions that feel right.

How much does this support cost?

The Planning Support offering is a one-time investment of $300.
Trying to conceive through assisted means rarely follows a straight line, and support should not either. I offer a support package of six months of continuous doula care designed to partner with you as you plan, pursue, and move through trying to conceive with a donor or through fertility treatment. You do not need to repeatedly explain your story, advocate alone, or decide month by month whether support is worth it. For six months, you are supported by someone who knows your journey and adapts alongside you.

Our meetings are shaped by where you are emotionally, medically, and practically at any given moment.
At different times, my role may include:
  • Being a steady presence at medical appointments, offering emotional grounding, note-taking, and help processing information afterward
  • Mentoring you as you explore options and make decisions that align with your values and goals
  • Coaching you through hormone injections, procedures, or conversations where you need to self-advocate with providers
  • Acting as a project manager when the logistics of trying to conceive feel overwhelming and hard to track

During high intensity months, we may meet weekly or cluster meetings around procedures. Between trying to conceive cycles or during waiting periods, support often becomes quieter and more reflective. The rhythm is guided by what will be most supportive for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Intensity of support depends on your wishes and needs, allowing your investment in a doula to reflect the level of support that will be most helpful at each stage of your journey. All clients receive a comprehensive fertility intake to understand your history, circumstances, and goals. At the beginning of each month, we decide together what to focus on that month and whether more active or passive doula support is appropriate.

During quieter times like testing, recovery, or waiting periods, clients receive foundational support. This is 10 hours of dedicated support, covering things like:
  • One structured monthly check-in
  • Research, resources, and education into areas that will help you move forward
  • Appointment attendance, notes, and debrief conversations

During periods which require more support, like donor selection periods or cycles with a monitored insemination, egg retrieval, or embryo transfer, more active support is provided. You may choose 20 or 40 hours of support. With more time dedidated to support you, I can truly shift between caregiver, mentor, coach, and project manager to meet you where you are and adapt with you through each decision point, step forward, and setback. I treat these months as "on-call", meaning:
  • Expanded availability and response times by phone, text, and email
  • Weekly or bi-weekly meetings to connect and gameplan
  • Prioritized time-sensitive research and next steps conversations so that you have the information needed to feel informed and assured in your decision-making ASAP
  • On-call for appointment and procedure attendance, including early mornings or weekends as needed

Support is structured this way to allow for flexibility while ensuring continuity of care. Quieter months are intentionally priced lower so you are not paying for a higher level of intensity when you do not need it.

Is support virtual or in person?

Both are available. I am happy to attend provider appointments in person. Private meetings are also offered in person within 45 minutes of Burlington, Vermont and are typically scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Virtual appointments are also available, with flexibility for evenings or weekends as needed, especially during more intense months.

How much does a six month package cost?

Total cost of the six-month package depends on the amount of support received. Every journey is different. Each month you can select between 10, 20, or 40 hours of support. In the simplest terms, support is $30 an hour, so a month with 10 hours of support costs $300, 20 hours costs $600, and 40 hours costs $1200.

Once engaged, I collect a deposit fee and payments are made on a monthly basis.

I can't afford this...

How does pregnancy or pregnancy loss fit in?

Doula support continues in early pregnancy and through pregnancy loss. Increased support following pregnancy loss (including presence at treatments and in home after-care) may be available at no additional cost through the community fund.

Do I need to have medical infertility to receive support? What about people in LGBTQI+ communities and single parents by choice?

You do not need a medical infertility diagnosis to benefit from preconception doula support. Many people I work with have no known fertility issues apart from needing a donor to conceive. As a queer mom who explored all paths myself, I love helping clients navigate all the choices! I support those hoping to use known donors as well as bank donors, those considering at-home ICI or IUI inseminations as well as those seeking clinic provided care. I support all avenues for in-clinic IUI, IVF, or reverse IVF and help you advocate for the protocol most in line with your body and goals.

Can I receive this support as an egg donor or gestational surrogate?

Absolutely. Doula support is available to individuals acting as egg donors and gestational surrogates. Care may include emotional guidance, help navigating appointments and procedures, and logistical coordination specific to your role. If you only need support for a single treatment cycle rather than the full six-month package, you are welcome to reach out to discuss a focused, one-cycle arrangement. If you are not the patient, but would like to arrange support for yourself or for a donor or gestational carrier who is working with your family, please reach out to discuss options.

Why isn't a one-month or shorter package generally available?

Trying to conceive support is most effective when it is continuous and adaptable. Shorter packages make it difficult to provide consistent emotional support, prepare for procedures, and respond to the unpredictable nature of conception using donors and fertility treatments. A six-month structure allows for continuity, trust, and responsive care across both months where you are actively trying to conceive and waiting periods.

Can I sign up for another six-month period if needed?

Yes. If your fertility journey extends beyond the initial six months, you are welcome to enroll in an additional six-month package to maintain continuity of care without interruption. Options for 3 month packages can be discussed on a case by case basis at that point.
